SERVICE BULLETINS & QUALITY CONTROL

Service Bulletins

March 20, 1997

It has come to our attention that some of our customers are attaching Barbed Tape to rusting structures such as uncoated support wires, rusting barbed wires, picket fences Etc. Please be advised that this will result in said structures bleeding onto the barbed tape, particularly into the core wire channel.

We recommend the use of stainless accessories and galvanized support structures to maintain a rust free product. remember that galvanized barbed tape and accessories have a limited rust free life. For any additional questions please contact the company.

It has recently come to our attention that some of our competitors have been marketing barbed tape products in Mexico, (Specifically, Detainer Barb) which they have been unable to market in the United States due to specification problems. We view the sale of inferior products abroad to be highly unethical. We want to be sure that our customers abroad are receiving the same quality products as our customers in the U.S.. In order for barbed tape products to be sold to U.S. institutions they abide by specific standards agreed upon by ASTM. Please see the description of ASTM.

We know that many of the products currently being sold in Mexico do not even satisfy the ASTM definitions for barbed tape.. In addition, we have also found companies who are trademarking standard terminology used worldwide. Most recently, we found the term "Concertina" trademarked. this terminology is a standard in the barbed tape industry and cannot be trademarked in the U.S. It would be the same as trademarking the word, "Automobile". Marketing stradegies based on trademarking the dictionary, adding cosmetic and non-functional features are designed to add value where none exist. These practices mislead the consumer and our a disservice to our industry. This bulletin is to keep you informed and aware so that you can receive the same quality product that is being sold in the U.S. If you have any questions please contact the company.
